The Wedding Cake Journey: Sullivan-Rapp Wedding

Happy Monday, cake-loving friends!

We’re excited to announce a new blog series about some of our incredible brides and their wedding cake journey.

We’re kicking this off with the Sullivan-Rapp wedding, hashtagged “#RappilyEverAfter

We asked the happy couple a few questions about their big day, and here’s what they said!


Where did the ceremony take place?

Our ceremony took place at Pine Lakes Country Club.

Did you use a photographer? If so, who?

Scott Smallin photographed the day!

Did you use a Musician/Band? DJ? If so, who?

Oracle Blue was our band, and Rob from Encore L'Amore was our DJ and ran the photo booth!

Where is your gown from? What style gown is it?

The dress is from The Bridal House of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, and it’s an A-line gown with a beaded top and sheer beaded back.

Did you use a florist? If so, who?

We used Robbie Gerba at RSG Events.

Did you use a Hair stylist/Makeup artist? If so, who?

Did you use a caterer? If so, who?

How did you two meet?

 We met 8 years ago at a bar and became very good friends, and then 2 1/2 years ago decided to date.

Now, here we are married!

How did he pop the question?

 We were in Cozumel, Mexico at a gorgeous estate staying with my family and close friends and we were doing a family photo shoot which turned into a surprise engagement shoot (little did I know).


What were your favorite moments from the wedding?

 The decor was incredible, everything was actually my favorite. Santana and her team did an amazing job.

Did you use a Wedding #Hashtag?


We were happy to help make the night even sweeter with a 6" round vanilla & cream cheese cake, cannolis, cake pops, mini cupcakes, cookies, macaroon, and chocolate covered strawberries.

We were so thankful to be a part of this beautiful wedding.

Get to know Kate!

This month, we got to celebrate another Pink Pineapple birthday!

Kate, our wonderful office manager, turned 22, and, of course, we celebrated with cake.

We figured we’d take this moment to get to know our go-to office girl.

So, we asked her a few questions:

What’s your favorite part about your job

My favorite part of my job are the women I get to work with everyday. Each one holds a special place in my heart and is constantly teaching me something new every day.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I love to hangout with friends and go to the beach.

What’s your major at Coastal?

Business Marketing and I’m graduating in May, 2019 !

Why did you choose that major?

I first started as Finance then went to Management, and finally Marketing. I always knew business was for me but couldn’t find my place in it. Pink Pineapple helped me a lot with that when I started working more with campaigns & social media.

What’s your advice to someone graduating college trying to get a job?

Don’t worry about finding the perfect one right as you hit the ground. Look around, find where you belong, your perfect job will find you.

What’s your favorite signature cake?

Definitely, Mint Chocolate Chip

My dream dog is a pug & it has to be a girl, & I want to name her Grandpa

Kate is an essential part of our #Dreamteam


and is the voice you’ll probably hear when you call us. We love her bubbly personality and her impressive fashion sense.

And, celebrating her, this month, was easy!

End of the Year GNO

Happy New Year friends!

2018 was a super sweet year for us and the ending was no different.

We celebrated another successful year

(and the birthday of our fearless leader, Chef Aura)

with a fun Girl’s Night Out!


The afternoon in the bakery included a Ginger Bread House competition

(that got pretty heated),

lots of laughter,

and, as always, sweet treats.

Our Gingerbread House kits made for quite the party and with a few tips and pointers from Chef Aura, we have to admit, we think we did pretty well.

As we venture into a new year, we were reminded of all the sweet memories, incredible breakthroughs and growth we’ve experienced, and the team we’ve built.

We couldn’t be more grateful for this past year, and more excited for what is to come.

Meet Rebeca!

Meet Rebeca Kip, Co-Owner & CEO of Pink Pineapple Cakes

Rebeca is often seen running the show from behind the desk, answering phone calls, leading story time, hosting Facebook lives, and even sometimes working from the craft closet.


But, we wanted to take the opportunity to introduce her to some of the new faces and followers to our Pink Pineapple family.

Rebeca graduated with an education degree and quickly changed routes after recognizing a need and passion for custom cakes.

She wears many hats, as most small business CEOs do, but rarely takes on tasks in the kitchen until very recently in our video series titled #bakerybootcamp.

As the leader and face behind the Pink Pineapple #DreamTeam, she loves studying inspirational business men and women including Rachel Hollis, Carly Fiorina, and John Maxwell.


Rebeca just turned thirty and took the opportunity to share some of her business wisdom and insight in a recent video added below. She also discussed her struggles with anxiety and depression, and how overcoming them has brought her to a place of self-respect and confidence.

When asked about her journey as the CEO of Pink Pineapple thus far she said,

“You always see pictures of this mountain and you want to be at the top of this mountain. Nobody tells you what the mountain is made of.

and the mountain ya’ll, is made out of mistakes, and failures, and bad ideas, and good ideas. It’s this huge mesh of everything you’ve done right and everything you’ve done wrong and every lesson you’ve learned.”

When she’s not in the kitchen taking on a new cake request, she’s at home with her family of four including her two little ones, Christopher and Anna, and her husband, Josh.

The Perfect Myrtle Beach Mommy & Me Activity

Being a mom and grandmother of two “little ones,” we’ve come to fully understand the struggle of finding fun, family friendly, things to do in Myrtle Beach - especially for locals during the off-season.

So, we decided to create a Pink Pineapple academy, specifically for mom’s and their little ones. These Pink Pineapple “Mommy & Me” academies involve creating a delicious treat and reading a book.  And, the sweets are just half of the fun. Matching aprons, decorating, and story time together makes each “Mommy & Me” morning one to remember.


Together, each class begins with story time on the couch. The story sets the theme for each class, so the story determines the dessert we’re making. Following story time, we learn about each baking tool and ingredient. Then, in the kitchen, we get to baking. We may create our dough (in the case of cookies or pastries) or we get ready to decorate (in the case of cupcakes or cake). We complete our finishing touches, take lots of pictures to share and you leave with the delicious treats and memories to take home with you!

Join us for our next Mommy & Me

Pink Pineapple “Mommy & Me” academies provides an outstandingly fun learning environment,  children ages 4 and below are welcome! Classes take place once a month on Saturday mornings around 9:30. The cost to attend is $25. All supplies (including super cute aprons) are included in the ticket price, and attendees get to take their creations home. We keep the class sizes small so that everyone receives one-on-one instruction.

3 Reasons GNO's are a Business Necessity

Us Pink Pineapple ladies really cherish the sweet things in life, and not just the edible ones.

Lately, thanks to Rachel Hollis we’ve taken some time to cherish the sweet people in our lives and business. Thus, Pink Pineapple Girls' Nights Out were born.

Once a month, we gather our #DreamTeam and take off on a super sweet adventure, usually in Rebeca’s in-laws minivan. Together, we’ve road-tripped to Charleston for The Knot Mixer, Wilmington for a Made For More viewing, and stopped for plenty of delicious meals along the way. Not only is this an opportunity to step away from the kitchen for a fun getaway, but it’s also allowed us to invest in our team and get to know each other outside of the cake shop.

We’ve shared plenty of laughs, got some great social content, and rediscovered what it means to be a part of the Pink Pineapple #DreamTeam.


Here’s why we believe GNO's a business necessity:

     1. They allow for rest.

For most, the summer seasons allow for a little break. Normally there are vacations involved and with school being out, most schedules become a little more lax.

But for us, the summer means weddings every weekend and a busy kitchen that is always smelling of fresh baked cakes.

We don’t make much time in our schedule for “breathers.” However, these GNO’s have become a much needed opportunity to get away.

2. They let us build relationships with our #DreamTeam

If there’s one thing that has been consistent in each GNO, it’s that they’re full of laughter.

We’ve laughed at our driving records, our social drinking stories, embarrassing memories, and so much more.

We thoroughly believe that life is about counting the memories and not the calories.

So, as we sneak cookies in the movie theaters and laugh as we try to fit giant burgers in our mouths, we’ve also grown to know each other as friends and not just co-workers.

There’s something about building a business that becomes community, that we’ve found to be extra sweet.

3. They help us build our brand

These GNO’s are an opportunity for us to get out in the community, be a part of local events, and snap lots of fun pictures in the process. We always rep our Pink Pineapple gear and in doing so, exemplify what it means to be a part of this team and family.

Because, as we like to say, when you buy a cake from Pink Pineapple, you become a part of the family.

We’ve seen our team develop over these last few months and thoroughly believe in the impact these GNO’s are having on our business.

Needless to say, we’ll be continuing these in the coming months and can’t wait to bring you along via Instagram and Facebook.

Cake and Dessert Inspiration for Fall Weddings in Myrtle Beach

September, October and November prove to be the driest months with the best temperatures in the Grand Strand, so it’s no wonder that many local and out-of-town brides plan fall weddings in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas. Yummy seasonal flavors like apple, pumpkin, pecans and caramel inspire a lot of at-home bakers to get in the kitchen, and we get just as excited about the creativity in baking that seems to flow out of that special feeling that autumn brings.

We love consulting with brides to learn about their fall wedding vision and working out each detail to ensure that it becomes a reality. Those brides who are looking for something more traditional can still make a statement with cake tiers that have been decorated with beautiful flowers and berries in deep autumn hues. Interestingly, several of today’s trending wedding cakes and desserts also pair perfectly with a fall backdrop.

Naked Cake

A “naked cake” is easily recognized by its absent or minimal outer layer of frosting. The look was once only seen by bakers as a “crumb coat” before the final layer of frosting was added, but it is now a hot trend especially in the wedding industry. Naked cakes bring a rustic texture by letting the actual cake color blend into the design which make it a great choice for the many brides seeking a “rustic elegance” theme. Cake flavors are most often white or yellow, although you can certainly get creative with flavors in fall.


Dessert Bars

We talked about planning the perfect wedding dessert bar in a recent blog post, and you can have a lot of fun with this trend in the autumn. We’re finding that fall brides are typically booking dessert bars with a variety of pies and cake truffles. Desserts can be customized in any number of ways to suit your color scheme or wedding theme, and you can get creative with the way that they are displayed.

Metallic Cake Layers & Accents

Metallics are a great way to go because they can adapt to pretty much any style, and they bring a sense of glamour to an autumn palette. There are so many ways to incorporate the look from edible gold leaves to a metallic drip that cascades down the cakes tiers or even fine edible glitter (think pixie dust) that can give a decorative sheen to your cake without overpowering the whole design.

Did you know that Pink Pineapple offers baking and cake decorating classes? Baking is a delicious hobby, and with the right instruction, it may be easier than you think…

We started offering classes last fall, and they occur monthly. Each class covers a seasonal baking or decorating topic, so that attendees can come again and again and always learn something new…

I absolutely love the classes you offer at Pink Pineapple. Thank you for always welcoming my daughter and I and making us feel right at home.
